New Vehicle Titles

When you purchase a vehicle from an Ohio dealership, the dealer submits the vehicle title paperwork on your behalf. If you purchased a vehicle from an out-of-state dealer, you will need the following:

Seller’s Responsibilities

As the seller of the vehicle, you are required to complete the vehicle title assignment on your Original Title and give it to the new vehicle owner. Do not fill in any part of the title unless it is done in the presence of a Notary Public or in front of a Deputy Clerk (authorized officer). All signatures must be notarized. If two names are to appear on the title, both signatures are required for all transactions in the State of Ohio. In order to successfully reassign the vehicle’s title, you need to:

  • Complete the vehicle title assignment section of the Original Title, located on the back of the title. This must include the buyer’s name and address as well as the vehicle’s purchase price.
  • Complete the odometer certification
  • Provide a notarized signature on the vehicle’s Original Title
